When we talk about health care, diet, exercise and sleep come to mind as key factors in achieving wellness. However, taking care of our mind has emerged as another decisive factor, if not the most important of all. Spending time cultivating hobbies, practicing our spirituality, and fostering our social relationships are key to self-care.
In the last decades we have been stealing hours of sleep and we have normalized it. Who has not studied for an exam the night before. Or watched episodes of a TV series ignoring the signals our body sends us that we need to rest. Time flies when we are scrolling through social networks. Starting the day sleep deprived triggers tiredness, nervousness, stress, and emotional eating, among others. I think it is worth reflecting on this and working to achieve a proper “sleep hygiene” so that rest becomes a helper instead of a handicap in our lives.
Eating well requires home cooking. At the risk of sounding imposing, I want to emphasize this point. Buying minimally processed products and preparing them at home is the best option. You don’t need to be a chef to cook vegetables and legumes in a simple yet tasty way. But you do need to plan what you are going to eat, buy the best quality food possible and spend some time preparing it. A good organisation greatly facilitates the task.
Preventive medicine is a necessity in societies where 70% of deaths are due to non-communicable diseases. In other words, lifestyle diseases and therefore preventable. It is at this intermediate point between health and disease, when solutions can be found, that the role of a health coach can be decisive.
Between full health and illness there is an intermediate situation for which until recently there was no professional who could help us. Many of us reach a point in our lives when we know we need to start taking care of ourselves. Our body sends us signals and we just need to pay attention to them, and to introduce changes in our lifestyle that allow us to live a full and healthy life. The health coach can accompany us, guide us and help us in this process.
One-to-one coaching is the most powerful tool to introduce lasting changes in your lifestyle. You will feel listened to, guided and accompanied throughout the process. You will have at your disposal numerous resources to help you create lifelong habits.
Participating in group coaching sessions has been one of the best personal growth experiences I have had in my life.
I have rarely felt so accompanied in the learning process, surrounded by people with common interests and so eager to contribute to the group and to nourish myself from the experiences of others.
